In the responses to Low Cost Mini PCs (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41389931), I saw some requests for a similar site but for laptops.
To improve on existing tools like https://pcpartpicker.com/products/laptop/, I added PassMark scores (with a lot of regex!) and live prices from Amazon. I also added panel types and refresh rates, and sorted results by a weighted rating, which takes the number of reviews into account.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions, thanks!
P.S: you can sort by multiple columns using ctrl+click (thanks to https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=winrid for the idea).
The main characteristics I consider when on the market for a laptop are missing. They are:
- weight
- mat or glossy screen
Then I have a look at the keyboard layout and keys height.
Not sure how easy it would be to add those.
Maybe I'm one of the few that really care about it but, the first things I look in a laptop are:
- can ram be upgraded?
- is screen matte?
Maybe it would be good to add these as filters.
(No wonder why I bought a Framework laptop.)
Cool idea! Adding PassMark scores and live prices is a nice touch. How often do you update the prices, and do you plan to add more filter options like battery life or weight?
